This is a photo of a rice field in Japan.

As far as I know, the red flower borders are just that, borders.

There's a bit of a legend about these red flowers which are strangely
considered bad luck, though they are found around harvest time in Japanese rice fields everywhere...

That's a beautiful field. I wonder if those flowers serve some botanical purpose--perhaps they are bad luck for the bugs. This is a stunning photo.
